Over the past decades, research has made it abundantly clear that women are underrepresented in the media and that, when they are present, they are more often than not represented in stereotypical roles.

WE GO

BEYOND

STEREOTYPES

At first glance, our women may seem to be easily identifiable western stereotypes; however, we peel back the layers to reveal their complexities and the conflicts they face, many of which remain relevant today.

Female characters were less likely than males to be portrayed as leaders, less likely than men to be seen at work and actually working, and more likely than men to be identified by their marital status.

—  WOMAN AND FILM

OUR WOMEN

STAND

ON THEIR OWN

We are committed to creating complex female characters. Our women hold positions of power, are grounded in the given circumstances, and are not defined by their male counterparts.

Progress has been slow at best for women and minority writers in an era of television renaissance, while film sector stagnation has witnessed either anemic advances or actual reversals of fortune for groups of writers that remain woefully underrepresented in both sectors.

WOMEN

WOMEN

We feel it’s vital that a story about women be told by women. We strive to work with women in every aspect of the filmmaking process.
